We’re fortunate to have had a plethora of pianos offered for our programming, but unfortunately, not all of those instruments have been in good enough shape to be played and have reached the end of their life. In an effort to preserve the magic of these pianos and their history, and to commemorate another summer of our project, we work with our tuners and technicians to harvest the piano keys.
Each key is then laser etched with an inspiring quote from one of many legendary pianists, from Alice Coltrane to Little Richard. These keys are a gesture to savor the wisdom and wishes passed down from amazing musicians who love this instrument as much as we do.
The purchase of an etched piano key serves as a donation towards Piano. Push. Play. and financially helps us move and tune pianos all summer long while they are on the streets of Portland.
