2025 Artist: Emi Tan

“A Tomato for Everyone" is a celebration of—you guessed it—tomato season, which coincides with the kickoff of Piano Push Play. Fittingly, in the weeks that I was working on my piano, I watched the very first tomatoes in my garden blush from green to orange to a bright cherry red. Tomato season makes me think of hazy, lingering sunsets and the hush of the garden in the morning. The surprise and delight of finding sleeping bees in dahlias and spiderwebs glistening in the sunlight. Most of all, tomato season is a time of abundance—harvesting bowls and bowls of sun-warmed fruit to share with friends and neighbors. This piano represents my wish for a world where abundance is a right and not a privilege, where we all work together to ensure that everyone is nourished and cared for.
