"Martha" — by designer: The Drawing Club
The Drawing Club
We rescue pianos and put them on the street for everybody to enjoy. We want to give pianists more opportunities to play for the public.
Veteran Piano. Push. Play. artists Lettie Jane Rennekamp and Cassandra Swan met in 2017 through their mutual admiration for each other’s pianos. They started a monthly drink and draw event, inviting friends like Michael Buchino to join them. It was there they discovered the power of collaboration, borrowed color palettes and their shared love of Late Jurassic period flora and fauna. This piano is their first partnership as The Drawing Club.
Lettie Jane Rennekamp is an artist working in Portland, Oregon, by way of Kentucky. She loves to draw vases, naked ladies, oak leaves, hippy-looking suns, moons, eyes, hands, a myriad of other iconography and some fancy handwriting.
Cassandra Swan is an illustrator, designer and professor in Portland, Oregon. She is interested in illustration and design that create conversations and foster human connection.
Michael Buchino is a single-image storyteller and principal at nope.ltd. He lives in Portland with a bike and a pencil.
Namesake Musician: Martha Argerich
"There are a few things everyone in the music world knows, or thinks they know, about Martha Argerich, the Argentine-born pianist.... She’s private, moody and unpredictable. She’s wildly beautiful, with a long, thick mass of hair — once dark, now gray — and a radiant, quick smile, and at 75, she still wears the peasant blouses and cotton pants of a teenager circa 1968. And she plays the piano brilliantly, ferociously and, perhaps, better than anyone else on Earth. "
