"Lucio" — by designer: Buhn Bee
Art Design Xchange
We rescue pianos and put them on the street for everybody to enjoy. We want to give pianists more opportunities to play for the public.
This piece is called Lucio. I played the piano for 12 years, starting at the age of 4. My uncle taught me actually. My late grandfather was always the one sitting there during each piano lesson, to gifting me my first piano as a kid. This piece is inspired by him, and my childhood growing up in a old school Filipino household. I wanted the piano to take you back and tell you a story through the objects/words growing up as a 1st generation Filipina. Using bright vibrant colors through the chaos, and finding a hidden treasure inside the piano's bench.
My name is Beatriz Lugtu, also known as Buhn Bee. I'm a Graphic Designer and Muralist in Illustration/Typography. I'm originally from Los Angeles, CA, and moved here to Portland, OR last fall of 2018. I picked up a pencil again 3 years ago, and started creating pun like caricatures of my co-workers at Diamond Supply Co. Had some laughs off them, and they all started to like my work over time as I kept doodling. It made me happy to see them happy/connect through my pieces. My hobby from 3 years ago turned into my passion. My art is inspired by my childhood, Filipino culture, Disneyland's Toontown, food, nature, puns, textures, low riders, 90s cartoons and graffiti.
